摘要: Pursuing sustainable and carbon-neutral bio-hydrogen (H_2) production from biomass is a promising advancement. This study explores the use of microbial consortia (MC) to convert Napier grass (NG) and oil palm frond (OPF) into H_2. The modified KKU-MC1, a cellulase producer primarily found in the Enterobacteriaceae family and an H_2 producer rich in Clostridiaceae, played a crucial role in this process. These MCs exhibited a diverse range of Carbohydrate-Active enZYmes (CAZy), particularly glycoside hydrolases (GH), essential for cellulose degradation. Also, it contained important genes for hydrogen production (HP). Based on these insights, we use these MCs for the HP from NG and OPF through simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) and augmentation by H_2 producer strategy. SSF process was achieved from NG (10 g-VS/L), with HY of 81 mL-H_2/g-VS. These results exceeded those achieved solely from the modified KKU-MC1 or an H_2 producer by 61-82%. Notably, the augmented H_2 producer achieved the highest hydrogen yield (HY) from OPF (10 g-VS/L) at 64 mL-H_2/g-VS, surpassing the HY obtained solely from the modified KKU-MC1 or an H_2 producer by 29-84%. This finding shows that the interaction within these MCs can enhance the efficiency of biomass decomposition into bio-H_2.
