摘要: Grasslands are among the largest ecosystems on the world representing almost 40 % of the terrestrial area. There are 393 million ha of natural grasslands in China, accounting for 41.7 % of the total terrestrial area. China has abundant forage grasses. The forage species are critical to livestock industries and have many advantages such as high environmental adaptation to various stresses of drought, salt, and cold and play important roles in preventing soil erosion and grassland degeneration and desertification. Given species diversity and the advantages of forage in China, research and utilization of forage species are still limited because of the less research funds of forage compared to crop species, the polyploid and complexity genome, less genomic information, the difficulty of genetic transformation, and the feature of perennial.
