Migration, Health Risks, and Source Apportionment of Heavy Metals in Agricultural Soil-Dustfall-Crop Systems in a Typical Watershed of the Taihu Region, China

摘要: Samples of soil, dustfall, wheat, and rice grain were collected in the Lihe River Watershed, Taihu region, to investigate concentrations, migration, health risks, and sources of the heavy metals (HMs) Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn in the agricultural system. Results indicate that the concentrations and degrees of contamination of HMs in dustfall are higher than in soil and grain. Cd is the most polluted among the six HMs. The transfer of HMs from soils to grains is greater than from dustfall. The health-risk assessment indicates that the risk from crops is higher than from dustfall and higher than from soil. The mean value of the integral risk of the soil-dustfall-crop system exceeded 3, with the highest values occurring in the east and middle of the study area. Source apportionment by positive matrix factorization (PMF) indicates that sources of HMs in the soil-dustfall-crop system vary with metal type and environmental medium. HM sources in the system are closely interrelated. Quantitative relationships of HM sources, taking Cd, a most heavily polluted HMs in this system, as an example, indicated that the contribution rate of dustfall to soil Cd pollution was 22%; dustfall and soil contributions to Cd pollution in wheat and rice grains were 73% and 82%, and 27% and 18%, respectively. This study can provide better decision-making support for risk management of HMs in the soil-dustfall-crop system through multi factors, multi levels, and multi types analysis so as to effectively avoid risks that resulted from HM pollution.
